In the bloodline that had once been as still as an ancient well, an unprecedented surge of heat suddenly erupted. Immediately afterward, it was as though some brand had been forcibly carved into it. Therefore, the very first thought to surface in Long Yin’s mind was submission.
He could no longer maintain his composure. And as for the changes erupting within his bloodline, Feng Qingyun, as the contract master after the reversal of roles, naturally perceived them even more clearly than he did.
Feng Qingyun suddenly smiled.
Yet that smile held nothing but icy coldness.
Long Yin, who had originally intended to hold out to the end stubbornly, finally couldn’t endure it anymore. His throat tightened as he defended himself hoarsely: “This lowly one was never as selfless as the Venerable Sword Master claims…”
“In the end, it was still because of my own selfish desire that I told you the method of ascension. If I were truly as selfless as the Second Palace Master says, I could have endured to the very end…”
But even he himself felt how weak those words sounded.
“Endure to the end?!” Feng Qingyun sneered coldly, immediately exposing the truth. “You should look at whether you even had the ability to endure. You clearly couldn’t keep up the act anymore and had no choice but to admit it. What kind of devoted lover are you pretending to be?!”
Long Yin: “……”
With his cover completely blown in an instant, Long Yin was so thoroughly exposed that he was left sweating and utterly speechless.
Feng Qingyun coldly withdrew the Linshuang Sword from his hand. However, it was by no means a gesture of retreat. Seeing that, Long Yin’s heart abruptly flooded with an ominous premonition… And sure enough, the next second, Feng Qingyun raised his right hand and pressed it against Long Yin’s throat, commanding coldly: “Then endure it.”
As soon as the words fell, in the very next moment, he touched his throat and directly struck Long Yin with a truth spell. After all, the blood deed could only force the bound party to obey the contract master’s commands in action; it could not compel the other party to speak their true thoughts.
Yet now, this one imperfection had been neatly resolved by Feng Qingyun.
If the timing weren’t so inappropriate, Long Yin might have even wanted to applaud him. Unfortunately, when the truth spell landed squarely on his own face, he found that even smiling was difficult.
The timing of the blood deed’s backlash was too precise… it happened to collide perfectly with Feng Qingyun’s bad mood! Of course, Long Yin could forcibly suppress that minor backlash using the authority of the Heavenly Dao, but…
Then what?!
Then he’d only provoke the already angry Feng Qingyun into a full-blown rage, and if Feng Qingyun kicked him out in fury, he’d regret it for the rest of his life! What would be the point?!
After weighing everything, the dignified Demon Emperor, the embodiment of the Heavenly Dao itself, now looked as though he’d been fitted with a leash, able only to keep silent and wait to be interrogated. As for Feng Qingyun, he stood in front of him without saying a word, reached out, grabbed his collar, and yanked him downward. Yet the tone he used to ask was unexpectedly calm.
“Go on. Why didn’t you plan to tell me in the first place?”
What was coming had finally arrived.
Long Yin abruptly closed his eyes, but his mouth spoke against his will: “…Because I was afraid you would become obsessed with it. That even after losing your memories, you would still struggle and suffer for thousands upon thousands of years for this, unable to ascend… unable to reach ultimate bliss.”
The axe that had been dodged for so long finally fell. In an instant, the boundary around them fell into utter silence. After an unknown length of time, Feng Qingyun spoke in an even, composed tone: “You call whatever heavenly realm up there ‘ultimate bliss’? The dignified Heavenly Dao… who would have thought you’re as stupid as a deer or pig?” His words struck like iron as he continued, “If that place was truly bliss, then why would countless immortals descend to our lower realm and sow chaos?!”
The words landed with resounding force, leaving Long Yin speechless.
“And even if it were bliss,” Feng Qingyun continued, “do you really think I would enjoy it?!”
It was almost the first true argument between the two of them, though it could also be called Feng Qingyun’s one-sided outburst. “Where did you place your pain?” he continued. “And where did you place my thoughts?”
“In your eyes, am I still just a seed with no will and no ability of my own?!”
Seeing him that furious, Long Yin immediately denied it.
“Of course not!”
But Feng Qingyun only looked at him with cold fury, as though he wished to tear him apart alive. He did not speak again, yet the truth spell was still in effect. Long Yin swallowed the bitterness in his throat and forced himself to say: “My pain… is not important.”
“…Not important. Fine.” Each word Feng Qingyun spoke seemed to be forced out through clenched teeth. Enraged to the point of laughter, he said, “Worthy of the Heavenly Dao! Dismemberment is nothing to fear, being shattered to dust is nothing to fear either!” However, his tone suddenly shifted, saying, “But have you never considered that, besides bone-piercing and heart-carving pain, there are other kinds of suffering in this world?”
Long Yin froze at those words, almost instinctively using the authority of the Heavenly Dao to peer into Feng Qingyun’s thoughts.
[The greatest suffering in the world is not being unable to obtain what one desires, but tasting sweetness first, only to be forced to watch it slip away with open eyes.]
The moment he realized what Feng Qingyun intended, Long Yin’s expression changed drastically. He had already prepared himself to be scolded, punished, even to be bound by vines and drained of blood in Feng Qingyun’s fury.
But never, ever, had he imagined that Feng Qingyun would…
Where in the world did his Little Rose learn this kind of method?!
Watching Long Yin’s expression shift again and again, Feng Qingyun stepped forward and very naturally wrapped his fingers around Long Yin’s throat, feeling the pulse beneath his palm.
“…If you dare deceive me again in the future…”
But before he could finish, a hurried voice cut in, asking in panic: “Sword Master Linshuang, Venerable Demon Emperor, are the two of you here?!”
Feng Qingyun frowned, clearly irritated at being interrupted.
“The ritual is long over…” the voice continued. “The two of you must have awakened from the illusion. If you are indeed here, my Mistress commands me to escort you both to the Spirit Palace. She hopes the two honored guests will grace it with their presence, lest it be too late.”
Feng Qingyun: “……”
No matter how furious he was, he would never vent his anger on an innocent party!
Upon hearing that, Long Yin applauded the ghost attendant repeatedly in his heart… while on the surface, he remained extremely cautious and silent, not daring to say a single word, for fear that under the truth spell he might say something wrong and be punished even more severely later!
Feng Qingyun also said nothing. With a cold expression, he raised his hand and swept it aside, and the Qi boundary around them instantly dissipated.
“…You two!”
The tactless little ghost was overjoyed the moment he saw them emerge. “Congratulations to you both on successfully awakening from the dream!” he said. “My Mistress has been awaiting you in the palace for quite some time now! Please allow me to… uh…”
Before the ghost attendant could finish speaking, Feng Qingyun turned his head and looked at him in silence. The chill in his expression startled the ghost attendant so badly that cold sweat immediately broke out.
Wasn’t it said that the Second Palace Master of the Xiān Gōng Sect had an exceptionally gentle temperament?! Then what is this jade-faced demon-like expression supposed to be?!
…Could it be that I just interrupted something important the couple was doing?!
The ghost attendant’s knees went weak, and he nearly collapsed to the ground.
Meanwhile, the Demon Emperor, the one who was actually rumored to be arrogant and unruly, appeared surprisingly easygoing. Seeing the situation, he cleared his throat and, daring fate, stepped forward to rest a hand on Feng Qingyun’s shoulder. “Since the Mistress of the Underworld has issued a grand invitation,” he said, “then let us go.”
Feng Qingyun did not move. Instead, he cast a cool glance at him.
“Stop.”
The moment those words fell, the blood deed was activated abruptly. Long Yin felt as though some invisible reins had tightened around him, freezing him in place. The ghost attendant, just about to welcome them forward, caught sight of it out of the corner of his eye and was immediately alarmed. He lowered his head, uncertain and afraid.
Long Yin took a deep breath. “…Does the Second Palace Master have any instructions?”
Feng Qingyun replied coldly, “No instructions. I was just testing whether what I say actually works.”
Long Yin choked.
“…And are you satisfied with the results of your test, my dear lord?”
“Satisfied.” Feng Qingyun answered coolly. “If you could always be this obedient, it would save me a lot of effort.”
Long Yin: “……”
Judging by the implications of his words, if future generations ever discovered a blood deed capable of restraining demonic cultivators, the inventor would very likely be Feng Qingyun!
Still, for Feng Qingyun, now that the blood deed was firmly in his hand, that hollow sense of unease finally receded somewhat. Only then did he turn his gaze to the ghost attendant, who had his head lowered so deeply he practically wished to vanish.
“Lead the way.”
Beyond the Ghost Gate lay the Bridge of No Return, and beyond that was the true territory of the Yellow Springs. Following the ghost attendant, the two crossed the bridge and stepped onto the main road of the Underworld. Amid the howling winds, they saw burial mounds lining both sides of the path.
These were, in fact, the dwellings of the Huangquan Clan. Each burial mound was a small cave abode, though under the dim yellow sky of the Underworld, the sight was undeniably unsettling.
They walked for an unknown length of time before finally arriving at the Spirit Palace that belonged to the Mistress of the Underworld. However, though it was called a palace, the place looked far more like a massive imperial mausoleum.
It was only after stopping before the Spirit Palace that Feng Qingyun finally realized what the yellowed sky resembled.
It was like the packed earth sealing the roof of a tomb.
His brow twitched. For the first time in a while, Feng Qingyun diverted some attention to his surroundings, frowning as he examined everything before him.
The origin of the Mistress of the Underworld had always been a mystery within the cultivation world. No one knew what her original form truly was. Yet the palace that resembled a mausoleum stirred the memory of a legend in Feng Qingyun’s mind…
It was said that in ancient times, the ancestor of those who cultivated corpses had been formed from the remains of a human emperor. After ten thousand years without decay, the corpse became a demon, slaughtering ten cities and wiping out countless lives. With resentment reaching the heavens, it finally attained the status of someone who could ascend.
However, when that fearsome corpse ancestor attempted ascension, their karmic sins proved too heavy. Instead of calling heavenly thunder tribulations, they drew the waters of the Yellow Springs, which dragged them into the Underworld, disappearing without a trace.
In truth, most demonic cultivators, ghosts, and even mortals burdened with excessive slaughter would seek ways to cleanse their karmic debt at some point, to avoid the wrath of heaven. Yet for some reason, that infamous corpse ancestor had attempted ascension while carrying an entire lifetime of slaughter, rendering the story exceedingly strange.
Still, up to the present day, all legends that appeared purposeful eventually proved to have a fixed conclusion. Thus, this time, Feng Qingyun did not dismiss the thought lightly. Instead, an utterly absurd suspicion quietly rose in his heart.
And soon enough, his suspicion was confirmed.
The ghost attendant stopped before the Spirit Palace and bowed his head. “We have arrived. My Mistress’s authority is great; I can escort you no further.”
Feng Qingyun frowned slightly, sending the ghost attendant into a fresh bout of terror. Fortunately, Feng Qingyun said nothing in the end, just lifting his foot and stepping into the Spirit Palace. Long Yin followed closely behind, like a dutiful mute guard.
The entire Spirit Palace was unmistakably a vast mausoleum. The narrow, oppressive passageway stretched endlessly before them. As Feng Qingyun walked on, his already foul mood sank to its lowest point.
And when they finally reached the end of the passage and the space suddenly opened up, that oppressive feeling reached its peak.
Inside the Main Hall stood a coffin. Behind it, atop a raised platform, sat a woman dressed in magnificent robes, a golden crown adorning her head.
It was the iconic attire of an ancient human empress.
Yet her body was steeped in a deathly aura; her limbs shriveled like dead wood, and where her eyes were supposed to be, only two empty, pitch-black holes remained, a visage only seen in rotten corpses.
The contrast between the lavish garments and the decayed, eerie body was enough to make one’s hair stand on end.
Still, that was not what angered Feng Qingyun.
What truly displeased him was… he had just reached the height of his fury thanks to Long Yin, only to have it abruptly interrupted! Then, he had been forced to suppress his anger and walk through some interminable tomb passage, only for the Mistress of Underworld to not even deign to rise from her seat!
It was an unmistakable show of dominance. And what followed perfectly proved his suspicion.
“I have been awaiting you both for quite some time,” the woman said arrogantly, fingers idly resting on her ring, without rising even as they reached the hall. “I wonder… are you satisfied with the grand gift I prepared for you?”
Feng Qingyun narrowed his eyes. “I have long heard of the Mistress of the Underworld’s reputation. Yet I wonder, what grand gift does Your Majesty speak of? My foolish husband and I seem not to have received it.”
The Mistress of the Underworld smiled, her withered skin stretching into a horrifying expression.
“The grand gift, of course,” she answered, “refers to the identity of the one beside your pillow.”
Feng Qingyun’s heart jolted, an ominous premonition surging within him. And sure enough, the next moment, the Mistress of the Underworld spoke in a chilling tone:
“Dismembered yet undying, body blasted yet unextinguished, worthy of the Heavenly Dao. I truly admire it.”
How did she know Long Yin’s true identity?!
Feng Qingyun’s heart skipped violently. His first reaction was not to question Long Yin, but to immediately draw the Linshuang Sword. His expression plunged to its coldest depths.
“…You’re an immortal?” he asked.
“I am not one of those useless beings in the heavens.” The Mistress of the Underworld laughed softly. “Sword Master need not be so tense. If not for me, would you even know the true nature of the one beside you? Why repay kindness with resentment now?”
Though her words sounded mild, her tone was laced with mockery, and anyone could hear the hostility beneath them.
“After ten thousand years,” she continued, “the Heavenly Dao has grown so henpecked that it doesn’t even dare respond on its own?”
Feng Qingyun narrowed his eyes, and Long Yin finally spoke: “I do not know you, nor do I know what you’re talking about.”
The truth spell had not yet been lifted, so he truly did not recognize the Mistress of the Underworld.
“Your authority over the Heavenly Dao is incomplete. Naturally, you wouldn’t know,” she replied casually, stroking her ring. “Thirty thousand years ago, my karmic sins were too great. When I attempted ascension, I was struck by the Nine Heavenly Thunder Tribulation. During my death, I was enlightened by the Heavenly Dao and stationed here to guard the waters of the Underworld. To exchange my sins for redemption.”
Feng Qingyun froze.
Thirty thousand years ago… forget assuming human form, the Heavenly Dao had not even developed consciousness yet. Clearly, it had merely been a cold, impersonal order. But in the next instant, Feng Qingyun understood the source of her current attitude.
To claim that the corpse ancestor was sent to the Underworld to cleanse her sins… Given the severity of her crimes, being cleansed for thirty thousand years would already count as a fortune accumulated over countless lifetimes!
But despite that, she was bound to feel no gratitude, only resentment.
Corpse demons were creatures of extreme malice and grievance to begin with. At the moment her ascension failed, and she narrowly preserved her life, she must have felt genuine gratitude toward the Heavenly Dao. But after guarding the Yellow Springs for a hundred years, a thousand years, ten thousand years… resentment would inevitably begin to take root.
And when the scale of time stretched to tens of thousands, any trifling life-saving grace would leave no trace in a corpse demon’s heart. All that would remain was hatred and fury. It was the Heavenly Dao that imprisoned her. It was the Heavenly Dao that reduced her to that state.
She had long forgotten that if not for her own overwhelming karmic slaughter, she would never have ended up like that in the first place.
Feng Qingyun could understand her thinking, but understanding did not mean indulgence. After all, he was already furious enough, and that woman still dared to mock them with things Long Yin had done before he even took human form.
Worse still, none of it was actually blameworthy!
So Feng Qingyun took a deep breath. Under Long Yin’s slightly apprehensive gaze, he forcibly suppressed the irritation in his chest and did not respond to the Mistress of the Underworlds’ provocation.
Because he had suddenly realized something he had never quite understood before.
No wonder in his previous life, the moment the Mistress of the Underworld disappeared, the Yellow Springs immediately flooded the mortal realm. And no wonder that in Xuanwu’s ruins, there had only been the collapse of the heavens, but no backflow of Yellow Springs water.
From beginning to end, the collapse of the heavens and the flooding of the Yellow Springs had never been causally linked. In his previous life, it was merely that the Mistress of the Underworld had “coincidentally” vanished before the catastrophe, throwing the waters into chaos.
Only…
Did such coincidences truly exist?
Given her obsession with ascension, if an immortal were willing to help her, promising… would she care about the lives of the world?
The answer was, obviously, no.
As if to confirm Feng Qingyun’s suspicion, the Mistress of the Underworld spoke again: “Today, with honored guests and my benefactor finally arriving from afar, it is my failing not to have welcomed you properly! I ask the two of you for forgiveness.”
Though she repeatedly called Long Yin her benefactor, her tone carried boundless coldness. Feng Qingyun narrowed his eyes, but Long Yin, on the other hand, had no patience for her charade and spoke bluntly.
“If it were the Heavenly Dao of thirty thousand years ago, what does that have to do with me now?”
“What does it have to do with you?” she laughed coldly. “Ten thousand years ago, just as I had finally cleansed my karmic slaughter and was about to ascend…”
Her smile was filled with grinding hatred.
“The Heavenly Dao formed.”
“And then it summoned immortals from the Nine Heavens and Ten Realms to descend, severing this world’s path to ascension entirely! Because of you, I was forced to rot in this graveyard for another ten thousand years!”
“And because of you, countless bones and wandering souls of the world had nowhere to go, gathering here to form that useless Huangquan Clan, cluttering my domain, disturbing my cultivation, and preventing further advancement!”
Feng Qingyun’s brow twitched.
So the Huangquan Clan were the souls that had perished in the ancient war, drifting between heaven and earth… At that time, the Heavenly Dao had only just collapsed, and the new cycle of reincarnation had not yet been established. With nowhere else to go, those souls instinctively gathered in the death-saturated Underworld.
But souls separated from bodies for too long, no matter how great their cultivation once was, had nowhere for it to reside. When memory and power dissipated, they became beings neither fully ghost cultivators nor entirely powerless…
The Huangquan Clan.
At that thought, Feng Qingyun paused, an idea stirring unbidden.
Were the ancestors, Tong Tian and his heavenly fox Dao companion, also in the Underworld?
But before he could pursue the thought further, the Mistress of the Underworld interrupted sharply: “And now, my karmic slaughter has long since been fully cleansed, yet I am still trapped here, forbidden to ascend! Why?!”
As her emotions surged, Feng Qingyun cut in coldly, answering, “Obviously, because those immortals were greedy beyond measure. Could it possibly be anything else?”
Hearing his retort, she froze, then sneered. “This Sword Master truly knows how to twist black into white! If not for your precious Dao companion stubbornly refusing to return to his rightful place, would there be so many calamities?!”
With that, Feng Qingyun’s patience finally snapped, and he stopped pretending altogether.
“From the moment the Heavenly Dao took form to the moment the immortals sensed it, more than a hundred years passed,” he answered. “Those who ascended through the Heavenly Dao’s gifts were as numerous as carp crossing a river. That was precisely what alerted the immortals and drew them down.”
“Since there were so many ascensions capable of drawing their attention, why wasn’t one of them you, Mistress of the Underworld? Is this all the strength the so-called corpse ancestor has, after blaming heaven and resenting fate?”
His words struck like a sword.
The Mistress of the Underworlds’ expression changed violently as she gripped the armrest and rose in fury.
“You!”
Feng Qingyun met her glare without flinching.
She clearly hadn’t expected the supposedly mild and detached Linshuang Sword Master to be so sharp-tongued. Her expression shifted repeatedly before she forced a cold smile.
“…Sword Master needn’t spar with me over a dying man.”
Those words instantly froze Feng Qingyun’s gaze. Seeing that, she smiled confidently, rolling the ring on her finger as something appeared in her hand. Holding it, she continued, “I know you came for Baihu’s heart. But if I hand it over…”
She turned to Long Yin.
“Would you be willing to return to your rightful position, Heavenly Dao?”
Bound moments earlier by the truth spell, Long Yin frowned and was about to answer, but Feng Qingyun abruptly raised his hand and dispelled the spell.
The Mistress of the Underworld understood at once.
“So your dear Dao companion can’t bear it,” she said with a smile. “Then why not let me finish being the good person, destroy Baihu’s heart here and now, and fulfill your love? Wouldn’t that be beautiful?”
The hall fell into silence.
“You’re threatening me?” Long Yin narrowed his eyes. “If you truly had the resolve, you would have destroyed it the moment you obtained it. Why go to such lengths to make me remember everything? What you want is for me to willingly die, so that the road might open, and you may ascend. There’s no need to hide it.”
She stared at him darkly.
“Stop pretending,” Long Yin said coldly. “Tell us plainly, what exactly do you want in exchange for Baihu’s heart?”
Well… having laid so much groundwork, she no longer bothered to act. “Good,” the Mistress of the Underworld answered. “I want to be the first to ascend after the Heavenly Dao returns.”
Long Yin almost laughed at the absurdity, since he already had someone in mind for that role. But before he could speak, Feng Qingyun answered for him.
“Fine.”
Long Yin’s breath stalled. In that instant, he understood. Feng Qingyun had never intended to be first. Seeing such swift agreement, the Mistress of the Underworld nodded in satisfaction.
“There is a second condition…” she continued, deliberately dragging it out. Feng Qingyun’s temper was at its limit, but he still asked coldly: “What is it?”
“The Sword Master must remain in the Underworld until the Heavenly Dao fully returns. Naturally,” she continued with a smile, “I will not mistreat you.”
Silence fell over the Spirit Palace. Long Yin slowly lifted his gaze, like a dragon whose reverse scale had been touched.
“What did you say?”
But she was unafraid, even grinning as she asked, “If the Sword Master does not remain, how will you guarantee the promise of ascension? And if I let him go, and you linger in the world because of him, refusing to merge with the Dao, what then?”
“You seem to forget,” Long Yin said icily, “that thirty thousand years ago, you should have been reduced to ashes by heavenly tribulation. If not for encountering the Heavenly Dao while you waited to die, do you think you would still be alive?”
“Whether I deserved it or not is irrelevant,” the Mistress of the Underworld answered with a calm smirk. “My sins are cleansed now, so what can you do to me?” Seeing Long Yin’s darkened expression, she assumed they dared not act rashly over Baihu’s heart. Grinning smugly, she tossed it into the air, letting it tumble down in her palm.
“And besides, Baihu’s heart is in my hands. The Heavenly Dao’s authority is here as well. What can you…”
“You seem to have misunderstood something,” Feng Qingyun interrupted abruptly. “You want to take me hostage, but did you ever ask whether I agree?”
“You don’t agree?” She laughed mockingly. “That’s unfortunate. Who told you to fall in love with a dying man…” In that moment, she failed to notice the subtle change in Long Yin’s expression, like someone watching a fool rush headfirst toward death.
“Rather than grieving after your short-lived lover perishes,” the Mistress of the Underworld raised Baihu’s heart dramatically, “why not prepare…”
She never finished, as sword Qi exploded. Her expression froze as she stared in disbelief.
“That’s why I said you misunderstood,” Feng Qingyun said calmly as he drew the Linshuang Sword. “A corpse demon who couldn’t cleanse her slaughter in thirty thousand years, who still failed to ascend after all that time…”
“…you think you’re qualified to threaten me?”
With that, he raised his hand. A single sword strike cleaved downward and split the entire Spirit Palace in two. Amid the thunderous collapse, the Underworld’s dim sky poured down upon her, casting her face into deathly pallor, her empty eyes widening in pure terror. The Mistress of the Underworld stood frozen, unable to believe the demon in front of her was the same gentle, mild-mannered Linshuang Sword Master of legend.
But before she could react, Feng Qingyun already stepped forward, ascending the broken steps with sword in hand.
“What are you doing?!” she screamed.
He did not stop. At that moment, Feng Qingyun’s sword Qi fell like the heavens themselves, and terror flooded the body that no longer bled. In desperation, the Mistress of the Underworld raised Baihu’s heart. Unlike the earthen glow of Xuanwu’s heart, it shone brilliantly even in the Underworld’s gloom.
“You’re not afraid of mutual destruction?!” she shrieked.
Feng Qingyun did not even blink. In front of him, her ghostly power, unleashed in panic, was sliced apart like paper beneath his sword. As for the legendary corpse ancestor, she was immobilized, no different from a mortal emperor facing execution.
Impossible… He was only a few hundred years old… how could he possess such power?!
Beneath the shattered Spirit Palace, the Mistress of the Underworld looked like a cornered ghost, while Feng Qingyun resembled a jade-faced god from legends, judging wandering souls.
As he raised his sword to strike, she suddenly cried out: “If Baihu’s heart is destroyed, your Dao companion will suffer bone-carving, heart-devouring agony again! Can you really bear that?!”
The Linshuang Sword halted. She gasped, thinking she had grasped his weakness… But before her smile could form, the icy blade pressed against her neck.
“It doesn’t matter,” Feng Qingyun said coldly. “The Heavenly Dao has endured worse than death itself. This pain is nothing.”
Long Yin: “……”
Her face went blank. The blade cut instantly, and blood welled at her throat. In terror, the Mistress of the Underworld clutched Baihu’s heart and screamed: “If you kill me, the Heavenly Dao’s authority will never return to him!”
“And I’ll expose his identity to the world! You’ll never know peace!”
“I’d rather he never take that damned authority back,” Feng Qingyun replied evenly. “And as for the latter, try it, if you live long enough.” With that, he pressed the sword closer. “Now choose,” he continued. “Either hand over Baihu’s heart, or die with it. Let the world bury you; it would suit the corpse ancestor’s name.”
His gaze was glacial, saying word for word.
“I still have domestic matters to settle. So… Choose until I count to three.”
“Or I’ll choose for you.”
